By combining large 50mm lenses, fully multi-coated optics and good quality BaK-4 Porro prisms, Vixen Optics have ensured that not only do these 10x50 Ascot binoculars capture a large amount of light, but a high percentage of this light passes right through the binoculars and gets transmitted to your eyes.
When you consider all this and the large 5mm exit pupil that is produced by the 10x50mm combination, then you know you have a reasonably high powered instrument that will perform very well in low light conditions.
This along with a fairly wide field of view make them a good choice as a lightweight hand holdable astronomy binocular. They are also ideally suited for users like wildlife observers, nature lovers and hunters who frequently find themselves in low light conditions at dawn or dusk or in thick woods for example and need a bright, good quality view.
The 18mm of eye relief is excellent and thus makes them a good choice for people who wear glasses.
At 8 meters, the minimum focus distance on these is comparatively long and thus not a good choice if you frequently study objects or insects at close range.
Vixen's Ascot Binocular Series consists of a selection of traditional looking, but very ergonomic Porro prism shaped instruments.
