Of all the binoculars in the Vixen Atrek series, it is the 8x56 configuration on these that make them the best at performing in ultra low light conditions.
The particularly large 56mm objective lenses are able to capture more light, whilst at the same time, the moderate 8x magnification contributes to them producing a very large 7mm exit pupil. This ensures that your eyes receive more than enough information even in extremely poor light conditions and when your pupils have dilated to their maximum size for you to perceive a bright image.
These main characteristics make the Vixen Atrek HR 8x56 particularly attractive to the birder, hunter or general wildlife observer who frequently operates at sunset or in thick woodlands and who does not mind carrying a slightly larger, heavier instrument or who uses their binoculars from a static location like a balcony, hide or viewing platform.
Stargazers will also enjoy using these binoculars due to their superior performance in bad light and even though the 8x magnification will not reach as deeply into space as that of binoculars with higher magnifications, views of the moon are spectacular and the wide field of view enables you to observe complete constellations and star clusters.
At 22mm, the eye relief is excellent and along with their adjustable twist-up eyecups, it puts these forward as an ideal binocular for the eyeglass wearer.
