The interesting combination of a medium powered 8.5x magnification and larger than standard 45mm objectives offers up a number of advantages to the user.
Perfect for those wanting a bright, superior quality image, these binoculars, with their large lenses they are able to capture more of the available light and thus these Vixen Artes 8.5x45 DCF binoculars really excel in low light conditions. This capability is clearly demonstrated by their large 5.3mm exit pupil, which despite the higher magnification is fractionally larger than that which you commonly get with a 8x42mm binocular.
One slight negative to these larger lenses, is that at 885g and with dimensions of 15.6cm x 13.4cm, these binoculars are a little larger and heavier than your average 8x42mm alternative.
At 122 meters wide, the field of view is more than decent on these binoculars which also has many benefits, including making it easier for you to quickly locate and then track fast moving objects like birds, especially at close range.
With 17.5 mm of eye relief and quality twist-up eyecups, all users, but in particular eyeglass wearers have enough room to ensure that they are presented with the full image without black rings on the edges of the view.
The minimum close focus distance on the 8.5x45 Vixen Artes is also more than acceptable for this class of binocular and that makes them a good choice for the occasional close study of butterflies, dragonflies or flowers.
The Japanese made Vixen Artes series of binoculars with the open bridge design are available with or without ED glass lenses and in four different configurations. The standard sized 42mm models offer a great balance between size and light gathering ability, whilst the larger 45mm Vixen Artes binoculars are will suit those looking for an improved low light performance.

On the exterior is a tough rubber armour producing an excellent slip-resistant surface and at the same time protecting the optics. These Vixen binoculars are fully water and fog proof for use in all weather conditions and are all tripod adaptable.
Twist-up eyecups and a long eye-relief allows for comfortable use and a full field of view, with or without eyeglasses. These binoculars all have a large centrally located focus wheel and a right eye diopter adjuster for easy and accurate focussing and which enables you to set up your optics to compensate for any differences in vision between your left and right eyes.
All models within this series feature fully multi-coated optical pathways for improved light transmission. The Schmidt Pechan designed roof prisms are fashioned from top quality BaK-4 optical glass and are dielectrically coated to further boost light transmission across all wavelengths to provided the brightest views possible with improved resolution and contrast.
The 42mm models also utilise elements within the lenses that have extra low dispersion properties.This ED glass further improves the quality of the image by reducing chromatic aberrations, which is the main cause of color fringing.
Vixen Artes binoculars come supplied with a good quality protective carry case, objective lens covers, rain guard, lens cleaning cloth and a padded neck strap.
