Introduction

Picatinny rail consists of slots with 5.23 mm spaces between one another, which means that it can be used across its entire length. It is simple to mount and interchangeable – if something is made for a Picatinny rail, it will fit regardless of the manufacturer or manufacturing date. It is affordable, resilient and reliable – this is why it so commonly used by professionals and military. Because of all its great qualities, Picatinny rail has been dominating the rail market in the recent years.

Picatinny is a big step forward from the Weaver standard. Weaver has a few predesignated slots while Picatinny has slots all over its surface, allowing the device to be mounted wherever the user finds it fitting. Weaver's slot is 3.8 mm wide, which is why ring mounts made for a Weaver rail will also fit on a Picatinny rail while ring mounts made specifically for a Picatinny rail will not fit on a Weaver rail. This is one of the main reasons why Picatinny is a far better mounting solution.

About the rifle

Company Rössler Waffen is a family-run company based in Austria, Tyrol. They have been producing firearms since 1996. Their Titan is perhaps one of the most well-known rifles worldwide. Once it was introduced to the market, the demand for it was so great that the production plant at the time was not enough. The company thus moved to a plant with greater production capacities and capabilities in Kufstein.

Rössler Titan 3 and 6 are bolt-action rifles, available in standard and magnum calibers. Standard barrel is 560 mm long while magnum is 610 mm long. Barrels are interchangeable. Bolt is designed with 3 or 6 lugs which are locked directly into the barrel. The trigger is short and highly adjustable. Its receiver is tapped with 6-48 UNS holes. There are two holes at the front of the receiver and two at the rear. The housing of the action is made of aluminum. Titan 3 is chambered for .222 Rem., .223 Rem., 5,6x50 Mag.,  .300 Whisper,  .22-250Rem., 6mm Norma BR and 7,62x39 while model 6 can be made for calibers .243Win., 6.5x55mm, 6.5x57, 6.5x65RWS, 7mm-08Rem., 7x57, .308Win., .358Win., 8x57IS, 25-06Rem., .270Win., 7x64, .30-06Spring., 6,5x47Lapua, 6,5-284Norma, 9,3x62, 8.5x63Reb, 8x68S, 6.5x68, 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag., .375Ruger, .270 WSM, .300 WSM and .338Win.Mag. There are two holes on each of the two mounting surfaces.

Rifles Rössler Titan 3, 6 and Alpha have actions of same dimensions, which is why they share the same mounts.

Rifles Rössler Titan 3, 6 and Alpha have a similar action as rifle Swiss Arms SHR 970. The radiuses of the mounting surfaces are the same but there is a difference in B distance (see the picture below). This is why two-piece mounts made for rifles Rössler Titan 3 and 6 will fit rifle Swiss Arms SHR 970 while one-piece mounts will not fit it.

Mounting instructions

Remove all the stains (grease, oil etc.) from the rifle's receiver with a cleaning fluid (acetone). Once the surface is clean and dry, check whether the screws match the rail and the holes on the receiver. Make sure that the Picatinny rail is compatible with the rifle by inspecting the mounting holes on both. Before mounting the rail permanently, apply a minimal amount of thread-locking fluid 278 or 648 on screws and contact surfaces. Be careful not to get the fluid in or near the mounting holes. Carefully clean the remaining excess fluid around the rail with a cleaning fluid. Using a torque driver, screw the screws appropriately (up to 2.2 Nm) – do not overtighten.
