Handgun scopes are similar to rifle scopes in their design, with the main difference being much longer eye relief. This enables mounting of the scope on a handgun and aiming when the eye of the shooter is 6-9 times further away, compared to aiming through the rifle scope. Other notable features of handgun scopes are a 1-inch tube and small size/mass. It is especially important for these scopes to be shock proof, since recoil of the handguns can be excessive. Some rifle scopes can also be used on scout type rifles, where scopes get mounted far in front of the shooter.
